We are exploring options to deliver the supermarket at 10–16 Selwyn Street, Elsternwick. This involves exploring options including undertaking an on-market process, that would see the sale of the site to a developer and lease back to Woolworths.
The project received approval through the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) last year.
The plans include 139 boutique residential apartments across two architecturally-designed residential buildings and a full line Woolworths supermarket in the heart of Elsternwick.
Following development approval, we are moving into the next phase of the project and exploring options to deliver a vibrant cultural, retail and residential hub for the local community, underpinned by a new Woolworths supermarket.
We made significant changes to our previous plans to reflect feedback received from the community as well as through the Council and VCAT processes and will continue to update local residents as we move through the next steps for the project.
View plansThe project includes a community space over two levels – contributing to Council's vision for a vibrant cultural precinct. We’ve collaborated with the Jewish Arts Quarter for this space.
The development will provide almost 1,000 sqm for a Place of Assembly, mezzanine and kiosk. This space will be available for the community to use as well as supporting Council’s Cultural Precinct vision.
The mixed-use development at 10 Selwyn Street will provide space for the Jewish Arts Quarter.
The red-brick character of the Selwyn Street fire station will be restored and repurposed as a new retail space.
The supermarket will meet local tastes and provide an anchor to Glen Huntly Road retailers.
Over 220 car spaces for the public will help meet Elsternwick’s parking needs.
The proposed development will create more than 220 ongoing retail jobs.
In September 2022, we received planning approval from the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal for our proposed development.
The plans include a full line speciality Woolworths supermarket as well as community space to contribute to Council’s cultural precinct. Quality landscaping will connect the precinct to its surroundings. Across two separate buildings, heights range between 6 and 9 storeys.
